History of CF

In the early 80’s a young couple’s Bible study class from Sagamore Hill Baptist Church, led by Allan McBrayer, became the core group for the beginning of a new Church called Cornerstone Baptist Church. In January of 1984 the new mission church called James Reeves as pastor. His first Sunday there was 65 in attendance.

In 1989 Cornerstone sold the building they were meeting in on John T. White Road and moved into a school for the next couple of years. In February of 1992 the church moved into its new location at 1140 Morrision Drive, in Fort Worth. At that time the church changed its name to Celebration Baptist Church. At that time James led the church to transition into a contemporary, seeker-sensitive model and the beginnings of the Hospital Church Ministry.

In 1998 James transitioned to the role of “Teaching Pastor” and Allan McBrayer became the “Senior Pastor: at that time. James spent three years in the marketplace full-time and preaching at Celebration on Sunday.

In May of 2000 the church family affirmed the recommendation of the elders to change the name of the church to “Celebration Fellowship.” Six months later James became full-time again as Senior Pastor. He and Allan McBrayer function now as co-senior pastors of the church. James’s primary responsibilities are the week-end teaching ministry and overall visionary leadership of the church. Allan’s responsibilities are primarily in the oversight the Bible study and small group ministry, and administration of the church.

In 2004 Celebration partnered with Joyce Gardiner (the founder) to begin a women’s shelter named Home of Greater Joy. The shelter is currently located in a home. As of 2006 Celebration was preparing to deed property over to the shelter for the construction of a permanent facility. Life Outreach International is also partnering with the shelter and Celebration to raise funds for the construction of the permanent facility.

As of the summer of 2006 the church had grown to a membership of 1400, with two worship services and two fully graded Bible Study hours on Sunday morning. Celebration is actively involved in helping other churches implement Hospital Church ministry wherever they can.
